SwineTech, Inc. is developing technologically advanced monitoring systems to assist the pork industry.
Each year, millions of piglets are accidentally smothered by their sows, resulting in losses of over $4.1 billion. SwineTech’s patent pending solution (“Echo”), greatly reduces piglet mortality rates by monitoring activity within the farrowing crate. Echo analyzes temperatures, sounds, and biometric information to detect when a piglet is in peril. It then sends a signal to a belt-like device on the sow, prompting it to stand up.
Future product enhancements will allow farmers to receive real-time updates, including information detailing the current health of each sow, as well as any potential threats or environmental abnormalities within the facility. This will provide additional tools to detect, isolate, and treat potential viral outbreaks.
